The church (also called Santa Maria Divina) was built in 1910 on the ruins of a castle where, it is said, lived a princess named Cecilia, who died in Rome in a state of sanctity. Among the ruins of the ancient castle existing on the spot, was found by a faithful, a small bronze statue (now lost, it retains only a photograph). According to the story was the Virgin herself to appear to the woman and showed her the place where his effigy was. Immediately began the pilgrimages, became so numerous to give life to the cult of the Virgin sanctioned by the competent ecclesiastical authority. Particularly interesting is the rite that is celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter, the statuette of the Immaculate Virgin -different from the original one stolen at the end of the '70s- is carried on foot in procession from the inhabited center of San Felice to the church of the Madonna del Castello.

Eremo di Sant’Egidio in Frosolone

The Hermitage of St. Egidio in Frosolone is a pretty little church just outside the village, at the foot of Colle dell'Orso. Dedicated to the patron saint of Frosolone, Sant'Egidio, a hermit to whom numerous healings and miracles are attributed. It is of very ancient construction, the date is unknown, but in the Middle Ages it was a chapel with a hermitage and depended on the Convent of Sant'Onofrio, which stood a little higher up, garrisoned by the Antonians (a hospital and monastic-military order of the Middle Ages).

Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta di Ripabottoni
Molise
Located at Ripabottoni, the church of Santa Maria Assunta is one of the best examples of Baroque architecture in Molise, so much so that in 1926 it was declared a monument of national interest. The work of the Neapolitan architect Ferdinando Sanfelice, author of numerous palaces and churches in Naples, it was built between 1731 and 1774. The interior has a basilica layout with three naves and no transept, and is richly decorated with stucco work. The building contains the most significant works of the painter Paolo Gamba, a native of Ripabottoni, and a work by his Neapolitan master Francesco Solimena.
