Torre Normanna

The sober but imposing Norman Tower dominates the entire village of Pietramontecorvino, in the heart of the Monti Dauni.

After settling in the area, the Normans, who had a military policy that differed from that of the Byzantines, initiated, as a symbol of their power, the so-called process of encastellation (construction of castles, as a distinct type of fortress), which recalled Roman military architecture. This territorial defence curtain was also used in the area of Pietramontecorvino with the construction of two large towers, only one of which is still standing.
