The name comes from the word "pipe", because on the lower course the riverbed resembles a pipe. The area of the river is a natural link between the National Park "Skadar Lake" (lower part) and the National Park "Prokletije" (source part). Its basin occupies 130 km² in the geographical area between the Prokletije mountain massif and the Zeta plain.
