The Archaeological and Nature Park of Santa Maria di Agnano, a few kilometres from Ostuni, is where the skeleton of the “oldest mother in the world” was discovered.

The archaeological and natural park of Santa Maria D'Agnano is a 13-hectare area at the bottom of Southern Murgia, about 2 km away from Ostuni. Its cavities have been the object of archaeological excavations since 1987, with several campaigns conducted by Professor Donato Coppola, with the collaboration of many researchers from Italian and foreign universities. The Park was established a few years later, in 1991, and is currently managed by the Museum of PreclassicCivilisations of the Southern Murgia, in Ostuni. The archaeological and nature area is a venue for educational and cultural activities, as well as events, guided tours and nature walks.
