The Brindisi Archaeological Museum - dedicated to the archaeologist and glottologist Francesco Ribezzo - was established in 1884 in the church of San Giovanni al Sepolcro and then moved in 1954 to the premises of the 'Old Hospital' next to the Cathedral.
Starting with an initial nucleus of artefacts, the result of fortuitous finds and donated antiquarian collections, over the years the museum has been enriched with new finds from archaeological excavations carried out in the city, on the coast and in the Brindisi area.
It was completely reorganised between 2007 and 2009 according to new museum standards, and today the museum is part of Apulia’s Library and Museum Network.
