Built in the 12th century by Stefan Prvoslav, it was demolished in the middle of 17th century by the Ottomans. The monastery was rebuilt between 1760 and 1790, when it took over the role of the center of strong resistance to the Ottomans. There is not much written information about the monastery itself, and it is known that it was destroyed and rebuilt several times.
