The inland area protected by the Regional Coastal Dunes Natural Park “from Torre Canne to Torre S. Leonardo” consists of olive groves, extensive arable land and ravines. The latter are ancient waterways naturally carved by rainwater that over the millennia descended perpendicularly from the hillside down to the sea.
The water has patiently managed to carve out its space in the earth because of the material it is made of, calcarenite, an extremely friable and mouldable rock.
