The Cave of Saint Orontius in Turi is a historical, artistic, cultural and devotional treasure of great importance for its characteristics and for what it has represented over the centuries.
According to popular tradition, Saint Orontius lived in it to escape persecution, but this is not really the case, since it represents a devotional legacy of great value, created by the mastery of the Laertine masters who have donated an invaluable treasure to posterity.
In fact, the cave contains the largest known Laterza majolica floor, consisting of 238 tiles dating back to the 18th century.
