The wetland of the Coastal Dunes Natural Park “from Torre Canne to Torre S. Leonardo” features brackish water ponds and ancient fishing constructions.
Morelli River is the largest of the park's backdune ponds and is part of the “Litorale Brindisino” SCI (Site of Community Importance), a valuable area where rare or endangered species of migratory birdlife stop or reproduce. This site contributes significantly to the conservation or restoration of natural habitats (plant and animal species) and the maintenance of the biodiversity of the area.
