On the ruined remains of the Meterizi mosque (from the 17th century), in whose surroundings were a cemetery and three turbets, according to the approval of King Nicholas, in 1880 a new mosque was to be built. In that place, instead of the mosque, the Cathedral of St. Nicholas (1890) was built.
