Cavallerizzo Mount has been declared by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, since 2011 as a site of archaeological interest particularly important.
The site is part of the series of fortifications of Sannio Pentro built between the fourth and third centuries BC for the control of the entire territory, is the apex of a quadrilateral formed by Mount St. Nicholas of Capracotta, Mount Saraceno of Petrabbondante and Agnone - San Lorenzo.
On its top, between 1516 and 1524 meters above sea level, there is the highest of the Samnite fortifications known so far, the so-called Cyclopean walls.
