The dovecote tower is an architectural form, used for the breeding of
the pigeons, inside which there were the cells that hosted the birds for
their breeding. Often, however, these towers had the double function of
dovecote tower and watch tower, however, in general, they had no active defensive function, given their inadequacy to this task, and could only be of help to intimidate the enemy arriving, unable to distinguish, because of the distance, the real nature of the tower. The one in question, perched on a rock overlooking the Biferno river, presumably dates back to the fourteenth century AD.
