Skanderbeg’s Memorial is located in Lezha and is a grand monument supported by marble pillars. The memorial, completed and inaugurated during communism in 1981, covers an area of approximately 225 m2 which includes remains of the 14th century St. Nicholas Cathedral. Skanderbeg Memorial was designed by the People's Sculptor Odhise Pascal and architect Latif Lazimi.
The memorial is supposed to be the place where our national hero has been buried in 1468. It honors the hero’s 25-year war against the Ottoman invaders hence the 25 words and Skanderbeg’s bronze shield that decorate the cathedral’s walls symbolizing this way the main battles leaded by Scanderbeg. Tourists can also admire the replica of Gjergja Kastrioti's helmet and sword. An important souvenir is also his bust. Behind the bust of Skanderbeg is a mosaic of the flag of Albania, which originates from the Kastrioti family.
The surface of the memorial in itself is about 225m2 with 11m height, while the original walls of the church of Saint Nicola include an area of about 72m2, where the wall height reaches 5.25 m.
The Skanderbeg memorial (the Burial place and the League of Lezha) records two of the biggest events of the Albanian Nation: the Lezha meeting of March 2, 1444 or as it is better known the League of Lezha, where George Kastrioti-Skanderbeg united the Albanian princes in the fight against the Ottoman conquest and secondly the burial site of Skanderbeg.
