The Spinazzola Bauxite Mines represent a particular form of human-made landscape, surprising for the vivid hues of the red earth deposits. They were discovered in 1935 and used from the 1950s to the 1980s to extract raw minerals from which aluminium was made, before being abandoned.
It is one of the geosites of international importance that characterise the Alta Murgia National Park, and is of great environmental and scientific value, with a hypnotic landscape: the red walls host a small pool of water that reflects the green of the vegetation and the blue of the sky, creating an enchanting chromatic harmony that transports the visitor into an unseen world.
