For Albanians Dhermi is already synonymous with summer itself. The village lies 42 kilometers south of the city of Vlore and about the same distance north of the southern city of Saranda. It is the second largest village after Himare in the province. Historical records suggest that this beautiful countryside of the Albanian coast has been continuously inhabited since antiquity. It is built on a slope of the Ceraunian Mountains at approximately 200 meters in altitude, and comprises three neighborhoods: Gjilek, Kondraq (also known as Kallam), and Dhermi itself. All the dwellings are built with carved stones taken directly from the local terrain and have characteristic shapes. The main activity is tourism. It has a new large promenade by the sea, and all the facilities emerged into the wild nature. In the register of 1551 it had forty-four houses and later in the register of 1582 fifty houses. The people of Dhermi have proven to be masters and craftsman of construction, building their houses in solid stone. Another characteristic of Dhermi is the fact that the first school was opened around 1629, to have an almost permanent Greek language school in 1870 and served as an education center for the entire surrounding area. It is also characterized especially by the high number of cults of the Orthodox faith (over 30 cult objects).
