Castello di Massafra

The Massafra Castle towers imposingly over the St. Mark ravine in the historic centre of Massafra. It houses the municipal library and the Museum of Oil and Wine Civilisation.

The medieval castle of Massafra stands in a dominant and strategic position on the left spur of the St. Mark Ravine. It was probably built in the Justinian period and, over time, underwent major architectural interventions, the most important between the Lombard and Byzantine dominations that shaped its current appearance.
