The Aragonese Castle of Taranto (or Castel Sant'Angelo) is a masterpiece of Italian military architecture of the Renaissance, which bears witness to 3000 years of history.
Dating back to the 15th century, it was built at the behest of the King of Naples Ferdinand of Aragon and is located on the south-eastern edge of the island on which the old city of Taranto stands.
The castle, together with the Swing Bridge, are the two civil and military symbols of Taranto, which embellish the city thanks to the refinement and ingenuity with which they were built.
