The Archaeological Park of San Leucio, located on a hill with the same name to the southeast of Canosa, is one of the most evocative places in the area, completely surrounded by olive trees.
The site testifies to two important historical periods for ancient Canosa, both symbols of pre-eminence. The hill was first chosen for the construction of the most imposing Italic temple in southern Italy, dedicated to the goddess Minerva, and later for the construction of the largest early Christian building in Apulia, the extraordinary basilica with a central plan, which was dedicated to San Leucio in the Lombard period.
