The Forra di Peschio Rosso is a calcareous buttress, remarkable for its size and color, a unique biotope in the entire central-southern Apennines, it is still unaltered, because it is very difficult to reach. The name of this imposing bastion derives from the presence of limonite (hydrated iron oxide), which gives it the typical shades of red.
Its sheer walls and breathtaking jumps, have been dug by the stream Rava (the ancient "Saba" that in ancient times marked the border between the diocese of Isernia and Alife). The overall height difference of the gorge, as indicated on the Regional Technical Map at 5,000, for the Peschio Rosso walls only, is about three hundred meters. The Peschio Rosso can be reached from Monteroduni along the Strada della Femmina morta or via della Principessa.
