In the very center of the narrow space where the urban core of Kotor lies a small square, today known as Bokelj Navy Square, where Maritime Museum of Montenegro is located, in the palace of noble family Grgurina. The palace was left at the disposal of the city municipality, so during the 19th century until the end of World War I it served as the seat of the mayor and the Austrian military command, and between the two wars as the seat of the district administration.
