Ksamil is one of the most attractive and popular places on the Albanian coastline, an underwater park. Ksamili Islands are near the lonian shore, in Ksamil of Saranda District. They have a surface of 15 hectares, 5 hectare of which are land and 10 hectares are sea water. They are situated about 7.5 – 15 m above the sea level. They are small rocky islands next to each other, covered by developed typical Mediterranean vegetation, consisting of the oak, the huckleberry, the laurel etc, belonging to Qurcio-Llicis class; whereas the sea water has a rich flora and fauna, where are distinguished; the Fanerogam and Bivalvori which are under protection of International Conventions, where Albania adheres. In total there are four spectacular islands in Ksamil and the most famous ones are the Twin Islands, which are connected to one another via a narrow sand belt.
Ksamil village, after whom the islets are named, is located to the east of the islets. Furthermore, the islands are situated within the boundaries of the Butrint National Park. This place has attracted the special attention of international media, which have listed it as one of the European Southern Destinations you should not miss and this because of the clear and brisk waters of the famous islands of Ksamil, and its proximity to the ancient city of Burtint, a UNESCO Heritage Site.
In the waters of Ksamil Bay there are six recent Albanian navy ships. They were produced in Russia during the Cold War and were used by the Albanian Navy. During the 1997 crisis, these ships were severely damaged, so the Navy decided to drown them, creating the underwater park. In order to properly define the area and for the visiting ships to be easily anchored, the areas need 4 anchor bova.
Some of the activities tourists can do include swimming, canoeing, diving, or book a boat trip, enjoying delicious seafood dishes served in the numerous restaurants of Ksamil, and the tasty cocktails etc.
