It was a quarantine - a military hospital, and then a barracks for the Austro-Hungarian army (which inherited the Venetian), probably from the middle of the 19th century, when the Castello tower was demolished. It is assumed that Kastel and Lazaret were built in the late Middle or early New Age, ie. during the Venetian rule of Pastrovici, Budva.
