Necropoli di Monte Saraceno

The Necropolis of Monte Saraceno, just a short walk from the town of Mattinata, is a religious and archaeological site built by the Daunians on one of the Gargano's most beautiful viewpoints.

The Necropolis of Monte Saraceno, in the area around the small town of Mattinata, is a magical place that still thrills those who decide to visit the Gargano area.

A hiking trail through coastal woodland of Aleppo pine, almond and carob trees leads to the summit of the Mount, where a fascinating protohistoric necropolis dating back more than 2,500 years rises more than 200 meters above sea level.

The religious and cultural site is a true paradise for lovers of nature and archaeology: the necropolis is crossed by archaeo-trekking trails that end at the ancient Via Sacra dei Dauni, while not far away rises Monte Sacro and the ruins of the Benedictine abbey of the Holy Trinity.
