Kakome Bay

Kakome Bay is one the quietest beaches along the coast, located on the Ionian Coast, west of the village of Nivica, between cape of Qefali and Akroriza beach. It has a shape of U letter with a width of about 300 m, entering 800 m in the land. Kakome Bay was used to be home to an army base and access might be limited during some periods. The eastern coast of the bay is low and is completed by beautiful sandy beach, created by the inert materials of Zenele stream, whereas the northern and southern shores are rocky, up to 15 m high. The height on both sides of the bay amount to 500-800  m and fall directly in the sea, creating underwater capes covered by corals, shells, sea-urchins and variety of plants. The continuation of the bay in the land covers a surface of 15 ha.

The shores and mountainous sides of the bay are covered by forests and typical Mediterranean vegetation, reserving a special bio-microclimate in particular Brodani forest in the southern side. There are no cafes or restaurants here that’s why visitors must be prepared. On the hill next to Kakome Bay, visitors can see the abandoned Monastery of SAINT mary, a fortified monastery of XV century. The monastery can be reached via a short hike over a track that starts next to where the road ends at the construction site entrance.
