The hypogea of Saint Sophia are the surprising proof of a hidden world under Gravina, rich in fascination and still shrouded in mystery.

The limestone material typical of all Puglia, in the subsoil of the town of Gravina in Puglia, has allowed for the creation of an underground network of remarkable archaeological, historical, cultural and social interest. Nearly every home has, in its foundations, underground areas populated by past civilisations, over time made functional to the uses of the time, and today historical testimonies of great value.

One of these is the hypogeum complex beneath the former Monastery of St. Sophia, discovered during the latest restoration work on the structure, hitherto unknown.
