The semi-rupestrian church of St. Vitus was built on the edge of the Gravina of Laterza, opposite the historic centre, a stone's throw from the bridge connecting the two banks of the ravine.
The church, originally underground, was built after the 9th century and enlarged probably in the 16th century. In the underground part, which today serves as the apse, 16th-century frescoes of St. Vitus (centre), St. Cosimus and St. Damian can still be seen.
