The natural features of the Niksic field, which is periodically flooded, have been used for hydropower purposes, by building a system of reservoirs, which direct the water to the Perucica Hydroelectric Power Plant. Slano Lake is an artificial lake as well as nearby lakes Krupac and Vrtac. The lake was created in 1950.
