Saint Paul Cathedral

Saint Paul Cathedral is the Catholic Cathedral of Tirana built between 1994 and 2002 and is dedicated to the apostle St. Paul. It is a modern-looking building and does not resemble a traditional church. The architecture of the church is impressive. There is a statue of St. Paul on the roof of the cathedral. Inside the Cathedral is the monument of Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II. The back part of the complex includes the offices and residences of the priests and the Metropolitan Archbishop of the diocese of Tirana and Durres. The great hall, where mass is held, is adorned with statues of the apostles and crosses, while the large hall space is separated by a circular balcony that runs across the entire second floor. In front of it stands the great statue of the crucified Christ, illuminated by the windows with boldly-colored frescoes. The land of the cathedral was donated by the Albanian state to the Catholic Church during the visit of Pope John Paul II to Albania in 1993.
