The Mausoleum is located along the outer wall of the right arm of the transept of the Cathedral of San Sabino, the main building of worship in Canosa di Puglia.
Today the Cathedral has a rather modern appearance, despite being built in the Lombard period and consecrated in 1101: following an earthquake, in the mid 19th century, the entire facade was rebuilt in neoclassical style. The interior, with a Latin cross basilical layout, consists of three naves and is covered by five low domes whose vaults rest on arches supported by eighteen marble columns.
Despite being devoid of frescoes, it contains precious artistic and religious elements, such as the canopy supported by four red marble columns.
